Flight

A boy plays with his
platonic shadow against
his own perspective.

His hands makes puppets
to shed their light to express
truth through a darkness.

Imaginary friends
share wisdom by his mythos
to make those hands wings.

And birds carry him
out from caves into the sun,
but the light blinds him.

What seem to be truth
is too hot to imitate
the divine to practice

He searches for shade
and shallow streams to cool off
from imitation.

Of old hickory
He perched himself on a branch
and legs dangle below.

Before he would jump
he thought of his limits and
the splash of bird baths.

Both dove and spirit
fell from sky into a boy
and broke legs made man.

He must learn to walk
again in truths he can know
before leaps in faith.
